hello,
this is a complaint regarding the DRUM RUDIMENT SYSTEM by lionel duperron. it’s too good. beeeeeeeeeast set!
yep. you read that correctly. it’s too good.
strange complaint, neh?
well, the problem is this: lacking a drum set, ordered the rudiment system to at least learn the rudiments on a practice pad. figured this process would take months (possibly a year). the plan was to use these months to save money to buy a drum set.
not happening. learned most of the basic rudiments in 10 days (flams are still “iffy”). “learned” meaning 5 minutes straight, steady at 132 BPM, right and left hand lead. also rapidly developing the ability to read music (at least drum parts) from following along with the dvd demonstrations of each rudiment.
mind you, this is only the beginner level stuff. haven’t even looked at the intermediate and advanced stuff yet. trying to avoid accidental “face melting”. still, if you and lionel had the good sense to make the rudiment system less awesome, we wouldn’t have to worry about “face melting”, would we? probably not.
anyway, never expected to pick things up this quickly. the set is THAT good. lionel duperron does an incredible job of explaining things, without over-explaining things. he included many helpful “tips” on how to practice the rudiments…. and those tips WORK.
and while we’re in the mood for some really esoteric complaining…..
you don’t give a guy much warning do you? ordered the set on dec 23rd (evening, it was dark). set arrived on dec 27th. that’s right. ordered this thing 2 days before christmas ON A WEEKEND and the set STILL arrived on the following monday. not cool, chief.
where is the time to spend wondering “will it ever get here”?
no time to savor the anticipation?
no time to mentally prepare for the sheer godly power of this set?
no time to stretch the wrists and forearms?
no opportunity to write angry emails demanding to know “when it will get here”?
who do you think you are, with your “high quality product” and “timely, accurate service”?
you guys don’t screw around with ordering, neh? hahahahahahaha!
so, to recap: complaining because lionel’s set is too good, and your company is too fast.
just thought it bore repeating, since it sounds so silly when said out loud.
seriously though, the set is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than advertised. it has made practicing both easy and fun. have been having a blast with the rudiments.
which brings us to the “question” portion of this email.
if one owns only a practice pad and sticks, is it possible to “move rudiments around” like lionel does in the demonstrations (playing different parts of each rudiment on different drums/cymbals)? is it possible to learn/practice things like grooves, fills and beats?
if so, how would one do that?
only asking because any minute now, it’s going to be time to move on to the musical portion of drum training.
as an aside, the woman that answered the phone is a winner.
she is:
courteous
professional
friendly
enthusiastic
helpful
clear (easy to understand….. some people fail to enunciate over phone lines).
hmmmm….. did we forget anything?
too good
too fast
how to practice fills, beats & grooves with only a practice pad
phone lady
nope. that’s everything.
as you can see, with two complaints about this set and company, you have some room for improvement!
huge appreciation for making such a great set. you and lionel knocked this one out of the park.
